Subway Annoyances

This post may be shorter than I’d like but hey I’m inspired.

If you live in any city and frequent the subway then these occupancies are more often than not commonplace.

If frequent the subways like I do and people watch as much as I do, then you’d notice certain habits in people that can be a bit annoying. Don’t get me wrong these annoying subway habits have been around long before covid but I think since covid entered our reality it has been happening even more so. Here are a few of them:

  1. People taking up an excessive amount of space: now this has always been a thing but I feel like it’s even more so during covid because there is a want to separate ourselves even more from people but something about it doesn’t feel human-like.
  2. Staring at people once they begin coughing: now this was a thing before covid too but even now, you’re better off holding it in until your stop. One cough is fine but a continued repetition of the sound makes everyone in the train cart dart their eyes left and right to seek out and spotlight the person.
  3. More spaces in between seats: before covid on a rush hour train, you’d more often than not see all if not most all of the seats taken, now I’ve seen 1–2 people (including myself) sitting on a bench made for three people or one person sitting on a seat made for two. Now this is great, because #personalspaceisgreat but idk there is something about it that gives me “don’t sit next to me vibes” idk I could be overthinking this one.

So yeah, my stop is coming up so I think it’s best that I end it here. If you read this far let me know if any of what I’ve written so far resonated. Thank you for reading and be safe on your journey wherever you’re headed. ✌🏾
